IS SHE REALLY 13 YEARS OLD?????
Can you believe it? Our first born, MaKayla turned 13. WOW!!! Since January, MaKayla has been warning us that the big day was right around the corner...she asked us often if we were ready to have a teenager in the house...and she let us know that she HOPED that she would not be a difficult teenager...always the positive thinker.
February 19th was the big day. I am happy to tell you that she still is the same sweet girl she was before the 19th...I thought that over night she might get taken over by the teenage monster...but it hasn't happened yet.
This year MaKayla wanted a Hawaiian Luau for her birthday party. We had fun planning and preparing. It was a cultural lesson for me as I just thought everyone in the world knew what a Luau was...NOPE...the Spaniards didn't know what a Luau was nor what a lei was...hummm...I guess Hawaii is a USA island. It just caught me off guard. 
The 16 girls didn't seem to mind that they had never heard of a Luau and enjoyed a cultural event as well as a birthday party. It was fun for us to get to meet some of MaKayla's new friends as it becomes harder and harder to keep connected with her world as she settles into the middle school/high school.
Celebrating our daughters life is something we do everyday...but we sure had a lot of fun inviting others to celebrate with us. God has blessed us HUGELY with MaKayla. We see in her a heart of joy...of seeing the best in everything...of never giving up even when things look impossible...a heart of love for those around her...wanting everyone to feel loved and cared for...she is our peace maker...our smile even on the cloudy days...she lifts our spirits constantly. Thank you Jesus for our 13 year old!!!
